Seniors Program

 

Seniors Program-

Dorchester Bay’s Senior Support program assists 70 isolated elders living in and around our 575 subsidized rental apartments in North Dorchester. We added new Cape Verdean and Latino members in ’02, and bought a needed new van in 2004. Lourdes de Jesus provides bi-lingual support & case management to this increasingly frail group.  This year’s goals include:

 

  • Providing safe, affordable housing to seniors: with additional assistance on financial planning, home maintenance, varied housing options, local safety procedures, abuse prevention, leadership.

  • Promoting healthy Lifestyles: education workshops, insuring health coverage, ethnic health risks, exercise activities, diet/nutrition, mental health supports

  • Provide Access, Education, and communication: social programs, transportation to meetings, activities, and errands, computer training, 4th computer center at Columbia Rd., grandparent support with DB Youth programs.

  • Develop leaders and promote activism: leadership within group, on committees, and DB board, Collaborate with other senior agencies, diversity experiences, volunteering.
