Completed Projects

Project 1 – Sr. Clara Muhammed Cooperative Housing – 25 Cooperative Units

Construction began in December 2001 and was completed in December 2002. Twenty five families moved in from December to January. We held the ribbon cutting ceremony on May 10th, 2003, with Mayor Tom Menino. This project has had statewide publicity as a brownfield redevelopment project. It was also the site of the Fannie Mae NBA Home Team work day with the Boston Celtics. Mass Housing Partnership nominated this project for the Fannie Mae Maxwell Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing.

Project 2 – Fenwick Gardens – 15 Homeownership Units.

Homes are scheduled for a spring completion, and 15 families have been selected from the city’s first time home-buyer lottery. Construction was to be completed in the fall of 2003, but delays due to environmental soil removal, utility line delays, and additional city requirements slowed the end date. These are the most attractive homes we have built. Over 500 families applied for these homes. These homes, surrounding the Sr. Clara Muhammed Coop, complete an entire mile on two different parallel streets-Alexander and Magnolia St, where Dorchester Bay EDC has done over 20 rental units, 38 other coop units, 3-4 home ownership renovations, before these last two projects.

Project 3 – Bowdoin Geneva Home Again – 10 Homeownership Units
These five two-family homes were completed in March, 2004. Like the Fenwick Garden homes, delays were caused by environmental soil removal problems, unsuspected ledge, and design requirements by the city that exceeded the budget. Also, some punch list items required additional contractor attention this past month. Five homeowners will own these as two family homes. Response from abutters has been highly enthusiastic, since the homes fit into the existing neighborhood beautifully.
