| The Commercial Real Estate Development Department at Dorchester Bay EDC works to retain and attract new businesses to Dorchester and Roxbury. We do this by acquiring and developing underutilized and vacant commercial properties and readying them for retail, industrial, office, and non-profit tenants. Through our commercial development work Dorchester Bay EDC has become a leader in remediating environmentally contaminated sites and redeveloping them into productive reuse, creating businesses and jobs for the community. Dorchester Bay EDC also works with merchants associations and city agencies to promote the commercial district and market the neighborhood as a good place to do business. The Commercial Real Estate Development Department has developed over 150,000 square feet of commercial space and brought new retail and light manufacturing businesses to our service area. We have also worked with local property owners to redevelop 41,000 square feet of commercial space, including a new supermarket and new artist workspace. New projects in the pipeline include a new 38,000 square foot community center and 13,000 square feet of new retail space as part of a mixed-use residential project. DBEDC staff has a LEED accredited professional on board.
